Vascular (Blood Supply) Assessment of the Lower Limb
Vascular Assessment

Are you suffering from cold feet, changes in skin colour, slow-healing wounds, or cramping pain in your calves when walking? These symptoms can sometimes point to reduced blood supply to the lower limbs and should never be ignored. At The Foot Clinic, we offer comprehensive vascular assessments designed to identify circulatory issues early and guide appropriate treatment.

What Does the Assessment Include?

Our vascular assessment focuses on the health of the arteries supplying blood to your legs and feet. Using Doppler ultrasound and ABPI testing, we can identify reduced circulation and guide appropriate onward care.

Doppler Ultrasound
Assess blood flow through key arteries and identify narrowing or blockage.
ABPI Testing
Compares ankle and arm blood pressure to assess circulation to the feet.
Clinical Examination
Checks temperature, colour change, capillary refill, skin and nail indicators.
Early Detection
Supports timely advice, risk reduction and referral where appropriate.

Kardia Heart Rhythm Check

We are also excited to introduce the revolutionary Kardia device as part of our assessment process. This cutting-edge technology allows us to monitor heart rate and rhythm quickly and accurately during your consultation.

Heart rhythm irregularities can sometimes influence circulation and overall vascular health, so having this additional insight enables a more holistic evaluation. Detecting potential cardiac irregularities at an early stage can play an important role in protecting your long-term health and ensuring appropriate onward care when needed.

Quick & Accurate
Fast heart rate and rhythm check during your appointment.
Holistic View
Adds valuable context to circulation and vascular health findings.
Early Insight
May highlight irregularities that require GP review or referral.
Better Outcomes
Supports proactive, preventative care where appropriate.

Who Should Consider a Vascular Assessment?

The consultation includes assessment for signs of reduced circulation such as skin temperature changes, colour changes, delayed capillary refill, hair loss, or brittle nails.

Research suggests that around 20% of people over the age of 60 have some degree of peripheral arterial disease, with higher risk in people who smoke, those with diabetes, and individuals with coronary artery disease.

Age 60+
Risk increases with age and should be checked if symptoms are present.
Diabetes
Higher vascular risk and increased importance of foot health monitoring.
Smoking
Smoking is strongly linked with reduced circulation and arterial disease.
Heart Disease
Coronary artery disease can increase likelihood of PAD and circulation issues.
